Intern/externships
Valley Equine Hospital offers two 13-month internship positions. This is a hands-on, intensive, and rewarding programme, tailored to support your future career goals. Interns receive close mentorship from our two in-house surgeons, supported by our ambulatory team and boarded specialists in surgery, medicine, diagnostic imaging, and anaesthesia from the wider CVS hospital network.
VEH was opened in 1991 and is situated in the heart of Lambourn. The hospital is a fully accredited purpose-built unit with a wide range of facilities including digital radiography, ultrasound, nuclear scintigraphy, standing CT, gastroscopy and a modern operating theatre. In addition, the practice has a laboratory, which receives clinical samples from within the UK. The practice has an intensive care unit, mare and foal unit, isolation unit and twenty stables for inpatients.
Our Internship programme is part of the BEVA recognised Internship programme which ensures our interns start their careers in a well structured, professional environment. Additionally, our Interns are members of the CVS New Graduate Programme which includes access to a BEVA Fundamentals course, enables them to attend the BEVA Congress and provides them with a New Graduate Mentor within the practice.
If you are interested in applying for any of the placements, please email your CV and personal statement to Tom.Mcparland@veh.uk.com
Externships
We offer two-week externship placements for veterinary students in their clinical years of Vet School who are interested in pursuing an equine internship. These placements are not designed for students to complete required weeks of equine EMS. There is an on-call responsibility in return for free on-site accommodation. Please click the link below for more information.
As a large proportion of our caseload are racehorses, our placements are more suitable for students who are comfortable with handling horses.
