Lameness and Poor Performance Investigations

Lameness investigations

A full and comprehensive lameness examination can be carried out at your premises.  Multiple procedures can be performed, including:

  • Thorough physical examination
  • Assessment of gait in hand (including flexion tests and lungeing) and under saddle
  • Sleip AI analysis
  • Diagnostic Analgesia (‘blocks’ to localise the source of the lameness)
  • Radiography
  • Ultrasonography

Sometimes particularly complex, time consuming or multi limb lameness cases benefit from referral into our hospital.

Poor performance investigations

Our focus as veterinary surgeons is on prevention and promoting the health and welfare of your horse enabling it to be comfortable in its work, whether that is happy hacking or racing. Veterinary examination prior to the season starting, in between events or competitions or before pony club camp can pick up on mild conditions that might progress if left untreated.

Sometimes a horse suffers a loss of performance or just doesn’t seem ‘quite right’.  Clinical signs might be very subtle and might stem from illness, musculoskeletal injury or a reduction in respiratory or cardiac capability.  We are well equipped with the expertise and equipment to investigate these cases.  Our team of vets are always happy to discuss your concerns, however mild they might seem.
